Dec 28th learning the poower of humility

Today is December 28. The last few days have been relatively okay. We were really working on getting our footing as a team. Each team member has a role on the team such as accounting or grocery shopping or worship leader etc.  Here is the team:

Left to Right: Louise (South Africa), Justine (Canada), Elnathan (The Netherlands),

Olivia (USA), Elyse (USA), Lena (Germany)

As the team leader I have to oversee all the roles and make sure we are running smooth as a team and so are the individuals. I need to have what we call one-on-ones with each member kinda like a coaching session with each of them we are trying for 30 mins each week. I have realized now the impact of not having a person for me to have my one-on-one with and what it is going to take for me as a leader to survive this outreach.

Because I am the one who is dealing with the contacts at the locations I take a much bigger responsibility to have our schedule planned to meet the requirements of the school and to really make sure the contact and the team are happy with what we are planning to do. Two days ago I made a comment about one of our contacts really just an off the cuff comment of my frustration with his attitude. It was revealed how this had impacted the team’s opinion of this person. When it was brought up I felt very confused “what I am to do with my frustrations and my ‘stuff’ as it comes up?”. I really felt like it was unfair that the other students get to tell me their problems but as a leader I needed to watch what I say…I wanted to have a tantrum…

I then realized that God has placed me as the leader of this team as I am gifted in leadership and I do need to set an example and that I have no one to sort my stuff out with except with God…now part of this excites me as this is where I want to be but the other half of me- the human part- who is used to complaining and getting validated for having negative thoughts wanted to have a tantrum! I am always comparing being a team leader to being a mother which is what I am always preparing for so I now see how a mother cannot throw tantrums when she thinks things are unfair or is not being validated for what she needs…so I am committing to take my garbage to God first and then to bring it to others. There is so much negativity in this world, what an awesome place I would be in if I was not adding to it!

In reality where I would love to be is in such a  place of deep compassion that I would rather  pray for this man whom I experienced ego from- to pray into why he is like that and for him to see he is doing a great job and that he does have an impact on others with his behavior…this leadership thing is really going to be a trip!

Here is more about what we as a team and individually are working on please feel free to pray into these areas for us!

Love ya,J

Team Goals

1)      To practice hearing God’s voice, both in personal Quiet Times and Team Times, for all areas of our lives and ministry and step out in obedience to do what we have heard God say.

2)      To be bold to step out to share the Gospel with the lost, both in one on one and group settings, whenever we have the opportunity.

3)      Commitment to Team Unity through servant hood, humility, confrontation, being open with others, and having fun!

4)      Being led by the Holy Spirit and being willing to surrender our own plans for the plans that He might have for us.

5)      Having a positive attitude and flexibility.

Individual Goals

Justine:

1)      Personal: Pray alone with God for 30 minutes each day.

2)      Evangelism: To preach a sermon at least 3 times.

3)      Ministry: Witness 3 miraculous healings – seek ministries where I/we can pray for healing.

4)      Team Unity: Breakthrough and make a priority to really “see and hear” team members and empathize with them. Not always task focused. (i.e. spend quality time with team members, ask how they are doing, how their day was, etc.)

Louise:

1)      Try daily to share the good news with whoever I meet and tie it in whatever I do.

2)      Take responsibility for a teaching. Grow in boldness to perform and create new material. Confidence in leading worship.

3)      Engage with my team, be transparent and exhort by the power of the Holy Spirit.

4)      Growth in my prayer life – “Lord teach me how to pray.”

Elnie:

1)      Personal: I want to grow in relationship with God by spending at least 30-60 minutes quiet time a day and I want to be more dependent on the Holy Spirit.

2)      Evangelism: I want to step out in this area by talking about Jesus whenever the possibility comes. I want to become bold and overcome my fear of men.

3)      Ministry: I want to grow in this area by teaching people. I want to give teachings at least 5 times on this outreach.

4)      Unity: I want to grow in love and humility by being open, not holding back, actively choosing to serve one another and putting others first.

Lena:

1)      To see 3 people become Christians using my testimony, sharing the gospel, and praying with them.

2)      To be a part of 3 miraculous healings.

3)      To bring a positive impact to my team and being totally committed to my team in also giving up my “fights”.

Elyse:

1)      Personal: To better hear the voice of god and act in obedience without hesitation and with boldness in what I hear.

2)      Evangelism: To receive and speak out a word of knowledge from God to someone that opens up the door for that person to hear and receive the gospel.

3)      Ministry: To lay hands on someone and have them be miraculously healed. To pray in tongues.

4)      Team Unity: For every member of the team to commit to choose to have a positive attitude no matter the circumstances. For us to build one another up, confront in love, and each fill the role we play on the team (everyone is an integral part of the group).

Olivia:

1)      Personal: To be very indulged in the word of God during my quiet times, learning daily from different books of the bible, studying them thoroughly, and applying them during outreach and thereafter.

2)      Evangelism: To be bold in stepping out to talk to people about God and pray for them, building relationship with them. To get past any fear of man.

3)      Ministry: To pray for at least 5 people for healing and see it happen. To be able to put my love for the medical field and caring for others into action.

4)      Team Unity: To build one another up by showing unconditional love, serving one another, confronting one another, having a positive attitude, and challenging each other to where we grow in our personal relationship with Christ.
